Firefighters Announce Endorsement of Jim Haggerty in State Senate Race

(KINGSTON, PA) - Kingston Mayor Jim Haggerty, candidate for state senate in the 20th Senatorial District, has received the unanimous endorsement of the Luzerne County Professional Firefighters Local 840, said president George Tomasak.

“Our firefighters are proud to endorse Mayor Haggerty in the state senate race,” Tomasak said. “Mayor Haggerty has been a strong advocate for both our firefighters and for making our communities safer. He has ensured that we have sufficient manpower, training and equipment to do our job and to protect the public. We are proud to endorse Mayor Haggerty and we have the greatest confidence that he will be an outstanding state senator.”

While Mayor of Kingston, Haggerty has increased the strength of Kingston’s fire department from 17 to 23, while simultaneously balancing eight budgets and cutting taxes six times. Under Haggerty’s leadership, Kingston instituted its own paramedic and advanced life support service, insuring that paramedics respond to Kingston emergencies in approximately three minutes. Kingston has also acquired new ladder and rescue vehicles and state-of-the-art equipment for its firefighters. Last spring, Kingston opened its new $3.5 million state-of-the-art centralized fire station, a cooperative project among several entities which Haggerty led.

“I am delighted to have such an important and meaningful endorsement as that of our local firefighters,” said Haggerty. “I have always believed it is a top priority to ensure that our firefighters are properly staffed, equipped, and trained because of the critical importance of their mission. Our governmental leaders must be committed to supporting our firefighters, and I am proud to have shown that commitment as Mayor of Kingston.”

“We will be working hard to get Mayor Haggerty elected to the state senate,” said Tomasak. “This election is that important and our firefighters are united behind Mayor Haggerty.”

Luzerne County Professional Firefighters Local 840 is a unit of the Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association, an affiliate of the International Association of Firefighters. Tomasak is President of Local 840 and serves as a professional firefighter in the Borough of Edwardsville.

Comments:
Did that local firefighter union sit down with each of the candidates and interview them? Now endorsements are a good thing,,,,,,

Gonna let you in on something: Edwardsville is not in the 20th Senatorial District

Hey Anonymous,

Gonna let you in on something, we know the towns of the 20th Senatorial District a hell of a lot better than you do. Although the President of the firefighters union is from Edwardsville, it's members are from a number of the communities in the 20th District.
